History
After Twenty20 hit the cricket scene several years ago, Plymouth's Dave Burke thought it would be a good idea to arrange a tournament for the top clubs in Plymouth. Joining Plymouth would be founding members Plympton, Plymstock, Cornwood and Plymouth Civil Service. The full spirit of Twenty20 cricket was embraced with the inclusion of coloured kits, white cricket balls, music played throughout the game and fun filled activities around the ground. Top Westcounty bakery Ivor Dewdney took up the mantel as tournament sponsor and provided pasties to the games. In a great first season Plymouth overcame Cornwood in a tense final played at Peverell Park.
2007 saw the inclusion of Ivybridge expanding the league to six teams. Again Plymouth were crowned champions after over coming an inform Plymstock side. A memorable century off just 70 balls by Plymstock's Steve Knight in the final was a great highlight of another successful tournament.
Plympton took over as Plymouth 20's champions after the 2008 season. They beat Plymstock in a comfortable final played at Harewood House. 2008 was the first season of the Devon Twenty20 Competition with the winners going on to a national competition. Plympton thrashed Sidmouth in the Devon finals before losing the final by 5 wickets to a strong North Devon team.
